Easy Energy Balls

Recently, at Solace Holistic Centre we organised a free baby massage morning. A group of mothers came with their beautiful babies and Tracy introduced them to baby massage and all of its many benefits. I gave a short talk on nutrition for energy - I remember struggling with this myself during the first year when broken sleep can really take its toll.

I made energy balls for our tea & coffee break and a few of the mothers asked for the recipe so here it is:

1 cup shredded coconut

1/3 cup coconut oil melted

1/4 cup hemp seeds

1/4 cup pumpkin seeds

1/2 cup cashew nuts

1/2 cup almond butter

8 dates

1/3 cup coconut milk

Blend all ingredients together until they form a dough. Roll in to balls and place them in to the freezer. They will last for months in the freezer and can be eaten from the freezer or thawed.

Feel free to use different ingredients - experiment with different nuts, dried fruits etc...

During my talk we discussed nutritional content of snacks. It is important to know that what you are putting in to your body is of benefit to you. These energy balls are full of ingredients that will support energy levels, hormone health and are a great mix of protein, healthy fats, vitamins and minerals.

Here is a little information on the ingredients used.

Hemp Seeds:

Have a perfect balance of omega-3, 6 & 9 fatty acids which help support brain and heart health. They are also a source of complete protein and fibre that benefit gastrointestinal health, and a source of phytosterols that help promote hormonal balance in the body.

Pumpkin Seeds:

High in zinc which helps support the immune system. A good source of B vitamins, magnesium, iron and protein.

Dates:

Immunity boosting dates are high in potassium, supply slow-release sugars. They are a good source of fibre, protein and minerals.

Coconut:

A fruit which benefits the heart, brain & stomach. Known for its unique healthy fat content, antibacterial effects and balance of sugar, dietary fibre, proteins, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals.

Nuts:

High in antioxidants which help fight inflammation and cell & tissue damage. Nuts are rich in fibre, healthy fats, vitamins and minerals. Research shows they improve blood vessel function and benefit muscles and joints too.
